After weeks of jellyfish keeping people out of the water, beachgoers in Ocean City are finally getting the all clear to get back in.

OCEAN CITY, Md.- After weeks of jellyfish keeping people out of the water, beachgoers in Ocean City are finally getting the all clear to get back in.

Officials say the number of jellyfish in the water has gone down, giving people the chance to enjoy the ocean again.

WBOC first reported the surge in jellyfish on August 10. Weeks later, the Ocean City Beach Patrol says the jellyfish seem to have swam away.

Ocean City Beach Patrol Lieutenant Mike Stone says conditions have improved over the last several days.

"Although the last few days have been, you know, really, really good not not much of a problem with jellyfish at all. You know, I would just say return to normal activity.”

The Ocean City Fire Department also encouraged people to visit the beach and confirmed the jellyfish have "packed up and moved on," via Facebook post.

Beachgoers say they are relieved they can get back in the water.

“It allows us to have peace at the beach. We can actually go in the water. It's been a couple of weeks now,” said Tina Clay.

Kelsey Seilhamer says the water is refreshing and she no longer has to worry about seeing jellyfish.

“The water feels so refreshing and it's just been really great to be out there. Hey, on my family here, my friends, and now I don't have to worry about anything because I haven't seen any jellyfish.”

Beachgoers are also encouraging others to enjoy the water again.

“Get back in the water. Enjoy the last moments of summer,” said Karis Goles.

Stacey Seilhamer says she thinks people should feel comfortable returning to the beach.

“I don't think they have anything to worry about. I think they should get in their car and come on down.”

While the jellyfish may be clearing out, officials say swimmers should still keep an eye on the water and listen to lifeguards before heading in.
