MARYLAND- A bill expanding the rights of child sex abuse survivors in Maryland is set to go into effect next week.
Under The Child Victims Act of 2023 the definition of “sex abuse” will expand to include any act that involves an adult allowing or encouraging a child to engage in certain activities. It will also establish limitations on damages that can be awarded under the law.
House Bill One will also repeal the statute of limitations allowing child sex survivors to file a civil lawsuit anytime.
Gov. Wes Moore signed the legislation on April 11th. It is expected to go into effect on October 1st.
