SALISBURY, Md. - Staff at HALO Ministry in Salisbury say they are facing a critical need for volunteers at the overnight homeless shelters they run.
Despite the mild winter temperatures, HALO's executive director said the men's shelter is on track to welcome more overnight guests this year than last year.
The men's shelter currently has 13 volunteers, but staff said 10 to 15 more people are needed to help out.
"Checking in guests, making sure everyone is where they're supposed to be," said Thrift Ministry Administrator Logan Schevel.
Schevel also said volunteers are needed in the women and children shelter, as well as the resource center, which is where guests can go during the day for classes and activities.
HALO is hosting a volunteer orientation Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. It will take place at the HALO Center of Hope building at 119 South Blvd. in Salisbury.
