MISPILLION RIVER BRIDGE

MILFORD, Del. - The Delaware Department of Transportation has announced the reopening of the Mispillion Draw Bridge after a months-long closure.

According to the Department, the Bridge was reopened today just after 1 p.m.

Brothers Bart Headly and Mark Headly spent their Saturday working in the 90 degree sun just a minute from the bridge in Millford.

They say their day got a lot easier hearing that the bridge was open once again.

“Well it was an inconvenience for everyone that was involved, that’s for sure, you don’t realize how much traffic actually goes down that road until you see that the road has to be detoured.”

Mark Headly says it would often add an extra 10-15 minutes to any drive.

“When you’re an actual person that works around town, let’s say doing deliveries and such, that adds up throughout the day quite a bit and that will really save a lot of people a lot of time.”

Repairs commenced in February after the bridge was twice struck by oversized trucks.

The original completion date was set for April of this year, but ongoing problems with corrosion delayed DelDOT's efforts to restore the bridge.
