Massive flooding in the southwestern U.S. has turned communities into lakes of mud, with residents starting cleanup efforts. In Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the San Juan River caused severe flooding. Some communities in Colorado and Utah made alternative voting plans this Election Day because of the flooding. That also is the case in Florida, where downpours have swamped some coastal areas. The skies are clearing in the Four Corners area and hundreds of evacuees are returning home, but the risk of flooding remains as the water moves downstream and swift-water rescue teams remain busy.
