SALISBURY, Md.- Some neighbors in Salisbury are calling on the city to amend its ordinance around unruly animals in the city. Salisbury neighbor Timothy Meagher says he and his neighbors feel powerless when it comes to reporting issues.

“Currently, the noise ordinance of the city in my opinion is pretty weak in that regard," said Meagher.

Meagher is asking the city to consider adopting the laws that Wicomico County enacted around animal control back in August.

“I think they have available to them, kind of a remedy that's sitting already, ready to go on the shelf in terms of the legislation that was recently passed by the Wicomico County council earlier this year. They don’t have to recreate a lot. It’s not going to take a lot of legal time to recreate the language that could be a lot more effective in meeting the needs of the community,” said Meagher.

Some of the rule changes in Wicomico county include increased fines, animals labeled as dangerous must be spayed or neutered, and animals who are a nuisance 4 times must remain inside the owner’s home.

Meagher says all of these changes would not just benefit the people of Salisbury, but would improve the lives of animals.

“I think that it would be more effective and more effective for the remedy to have stricter tools for the animal control officers to be able to do their job and to enforce a better situation for resolution for everyone involved,  including the animal,” said Meagher.

WBOC reached out to the city for comment but did not hear back from officials.
