SEAFORD, De. - A SURGICAL ROBOT WILL SOON TAKE OVER ONE OPERATING ROOM IN WESTERN SUSSEX COUNTy to HELP SAVE LIVES.
The dAVINCHI X-I SURGICAL ROBOT has a new home at the TiDALHEALTH NANTICOKE HOSPITAL IN SEAFORD. On thursaday, many health care workers gathered in the hospitals lobby to get a glimpse and OPERATE IT THEMSELVES.
MEDICAL ASSISTANT, ALYSIA MILLS, SAYS IT'S PRETTY EASY TO USE."You put your fingers through there. You use your middle finger and your thumb and it's literally as if you're grabbing and operating it. Everything is right up in your face, very 3D, very convenient," says Mills. THE SURGICAL ROBOT'S EXPERT IS CARDIOTHORACIC SURGEON, DR. KURT WEHBERG.HE HAS USED THE ROBOT ON MORE THAN 1,500 PATIENTS OVER THE YEARS. DR. WEHBERG SAYS HE'S EXCITED TO BRING THE SURGICAL ROBOT TO SEAFORD. "I was one of the first who started it with my team. We built a great robotic team in Salisbury and now I'm back here with TidalHealth. This so we can develop a program at Nanticoke for Robotics," says Dr. Wehberg. "We're trying to transform surgery into robotic surgery for the benefit of the patient." THE HOSPITAL IS FINISHING UP THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE DEDICATED ROBOTIC OPERATING ROOM OF THE ROBOTIC INSTITUTE. On September 2, DR. KURT WEHBERG WILL OPERATE ON A GROUP OF PATIENTS, using the robot, AT THE TIDALHEALTH NANTICOKE HOSPITAL.
