DOVER, Del. --- The Schwartz Center for the Arts may have closed some time ago, though an event on Friday at the historic theatre is sparking some interest in seeing the venue host performances more often.
Diane Laird with the Downtown Dover Partnership said the partnered with Delaware State University to host performances from The Cartoon Christmas Trio and The Fig Tree band. The venue has been mostly quiet in recent years after it was shuttered following lagging ticket sales.
"Getting it engaged at some level is critical to our downtown here. DSU is going to be a strong partner in that effort," she said.
The Schwartz Center is owned by both DSU and Wesley College, which is set to be acquired by DSU next year. A spokesman for Delaware State University said there were currently no plans to reopen the Schwartz Center on a regular basis, though that could change in the future.
