OCEAN CITY, Md-
The Art League of Ocean City is making sure people can still experience art and creativity...even while in quarantine. Instead of simply shutting their doors, the league is offering all the same galleries, exhibits, and fun online.
"In this time where everybody is feeling isolated and dealing with different stresses, we wanted to find a way of delivering our mission of promoting the arts," said Rina Thaler, executive director of the league.
Even from a computer screen, it can feel like you're in the building yourself. Each week members will take you through a video tour of the galleries. New segments will be posted such as Kreative Kids Friday or Drop in Tuesday. If you're feeling competitive, there are ways to submit you art for a cash prize.
Thaler says not only are they hoping to keep people involved with the league, they want to keep people healthy while isolating and social distancing.
"We know that the benefits of creating art can actually change your brain when you go into the zone. And when you create a piece it's therapeutic," said Thaler.
All of the videos and classes are easily accessed on the Art League of Ocean City's Facebook page.
Thaler says the league will continue these online resources, after the pandemic is over.
Most of the events are free. Those that do cost money, like the competitions, have a small entry fee.
The Art League also offers college scholarships to high school seniors. They've extended the deadline to apply to May 8.
