CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Cambridge police say a 14-year-old boy is facing attempted murder and related charges after he opened fire on someone from the backseat of a vehicle his mother was driving.

It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, when officers responded to the area of Greenwood and Cosby avenues in reference to shots fired. Police said that while officers were being dispatched, detectives immediately began checking the surveillance camera footage in the area. Through investigation and the surveillance footage, police were able to obtain a suspect vehicle and locate the victim who was shot at. The surveillance camera footage showed that someone had shot from the rear passenger area of the suspect vehicle. The footage also showed the victim ducking when the shots were being fired. The victim did not sustain any injury, according to police.

A short time later, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle nearby and made contact with the driver, identified as Cornella J. Rookard, 34, of St. Michaels, Md. Police said Rookard drove her 14-year-old son to Cambridge to find someone with whom her son had a confrontation with earlier in the day.

Police said that when Rookard and her son found the victim in the Cosby Avenue area, the son - who was armed with a shotgun while sitting in the vehicle's backseat - fired shots at the victim.

The boy was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, weapon charges, along with other related charges. He was ordered held without bond.

Rookard was charged with first- and second-degree assault, contributing to a minor, and reckless endangerment. Like her son, Rookard was also ordered held without bond.
