SALISBURY, Md.- Joan Maycock was gifted a new railing for the entrance of her Wicomico County home after a fall made it difficult for her to get in and out of her home.
She called the Mac Senior Center, which contacted Perdue Farms associates and the Chesapeake Housing Mission to build a new stair railing for Maycock. This is one of the many projects Perdue and the Mission have done together in the past 10 years.
Don Taylor, the executive manager for the Chesapeake Housing Mission, said, “The Chesapeake Housing Mission is a Christian mission that brings volunteers together with people in need -- people that need to be warmer, safer, and drier."
They provide housing repairs for low-income families across the Chesapeake region. The Mission says its goal is to transform the lives of people, the community they serve and volunteers.
“We want to be involved in our communities. So coming out here and doing these service events in the community is what we enjoy doing,” said Loren Hershberger, the sourcing manager for Perdue.
The railing was completed within three hours and now Maycock will be able to go in and out of her home safely.
