OCEAN CITY, Md.- Fire heavily damaged a popular restaurant in Ocean City on Sunday night.
Shortly after 9 p.m., the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Department was called to the Angler restaurant on Talbot Street. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and an extensive overhaul was conducted of the fire area. One citizen sustained minor injuries, according to fire department spokesman Ryan Whittington.
Sean Bryan, general manager of Angler, said HE JUST CLOSED THE RESTAURANT Saturday FOR THE END OF THE SEASON. HOWEVER, SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS THE RESTAURANT caught FIRE THE following DAY. Bryan said HE RUSHED BACK TO THE SCENE.
"I was very shocked, I had a deep sense of urgency to get here, so I came from Berlin," Bryan said. "With the report of the fire and the flames, I was kind of relieved when I got here and saw what it actually was."
BRYAN SAYS HE'S THANKFUL MAJORITY OF THE DAMAGE WAS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE RESTAURANT'S restrooms.
WILLIAM SANGER said HE'S BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER of THE RESTAURANT FOR 50 YEARS. HE'S CONFIDENT IT WILL RECOVER in time for next year's reopening.
"We were just devastated when we got here this morning to find out they had a fire last night. But fortunately, it was on the exterior of the building. It won't take long for them to make all the necessary repairs," said Sanger.
THE OCEAN CITY FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE said it is still INVESTIGATING the cause of the fire.
