REHOBOTH BEACH, DE– The boardwalk community is mourning the loss of a longtime friendly face.

Funland Rehoboth Beach announced the passing of Allen 'Al' Fasnacht yesterday, reflecting on the founder's more than six decades of service to families visiting the boardwalk.

In a Facebook post, Funland said Fasnacht fostered countless close connections, with visitors returning even once they were too tall to ride.

Hundreds of commenters shared their own memories of meeting and talking to him.

Fasnacht bought the park with his parents and brother Don in 1962 and rebranded it to the Funland loved by generations.

"'Funland doesn’t need me, I need Funland,' he once said, and this mantra kept him going well past a formal retirement," the business wrote.

Fasnacht continued working at the amusement park into his nineties, to be remembered for years to come in Rehoboth Beach and beyond.
