SALISBUSY, MD - The annual Salisbury Marathon returned to Wicomico County on Saturday.
The 2025 Salisbury Marathon event brought an exciting day of athleticism and community spirit to the downtown. Runners from across the country participated in 1 of 3 races: the marathon, half-marathon, and 5k.
Luke Smith, from Baltimore City, ran in the marathon category on Saturday. He says he does about 2 races every year. Smith says he enjoyed running but was glad to have another race under his belt. "You go through a lot of emotions. You feel good and then you're holding onto the end... it's a roller coaster ride."
First-time marathon runner, Kara Lombardo, won the women's group and learned about Salisbury's event from friends who had already signed up. She says Salisbury's downtown event was a great first race. "It's my first time racing a marathon, but I've done other endurance events and I have always been hesitant to take it on but it went really well. There's more in my future for sure".
The event was hosted by RunSBY. They say the marathon and half-marathon courses shared the same path for the first 10.8 miles before splitting off to finish their courses on separate paths. Saturday's marathon was also a chance for many runners to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
