Ambassador Program

SALISBURY, Md.- The city of Salisbury has introduced it's downtown ambassadorship program. A team of ambassadors monitors the downtown area, answers tourist's questions and give recommendations, cleans any trash from the area, and can be an extra pair of eyes for police.

The team rides on a golf cart, which can also give complementary rides downtown. The number to call is 1-833-DTWNSBY. Laura Soper, the director of business development for the city says during the day the ambassadors' job is geared towards helping tourists, and at night their job shifts to a focus on safety.

“They’re eyes and ears, they are in constant deployment walking throughout downtown, seeing what’s going on. We haven’t had any major issues yet, but they are there and they are there to be a friendly and helping hand to people,” said Soper.

Chris Kane, an ambassador says the jobs keeps him busy.

“Oh we do like a little bit of everything. All over the place. Like when we start, typically we are looking at beautification and then as the day goes on, and people come downtown we start giving directions, recommendations for tourists,” said Kane.

The teams operate until midnight during the week, and until 2 AM on the weekend.
