SEAFORD, DE.- A beloved Seaford tradition is coming to an end.
The annual “Nanticoke Riverfest” will not be making a return this year after nearly 30 years. The Seaford city council voted Tuesday night to pass a recommendation brought by the superintendent of parks and recreation to no longer continue the event.
Officials say a lack of participation, less sponsorships and volunteers led to the tough decision.
To transition away from the festival, the Riverfest Committee is looking to sponsor a “Friday Night Live” event in July, around the same time as Riverfest. They would plan to do a float-in on the Naticoke River the following day in Seaford.
The first Nanticoke Riverfest was held in 1994.
