VIRGINIA - Governor Glenn Youngkin has ordered the lowering of American and State flags across the Commonwealth in memory of the victims of last year’s University of Virginia shooting.

Three UVA student-athletes were killed in the shooting and two others injured on November 13th, 2022. The three slain were identified as Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry, all members of the school’s football team.

Youngkin, in a statement, said the flags are to be lowered “in respect and memory of the victims, their families, and the Charlottesville community following last years’ University of Virginia shooting.”

Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., the man accused of shooting his classmates, faces various charges including murder. His trial is slated to begin in 2024.

Youngkin’s flag order takes effect Tuesday at sunrise and lasts until sunset.
