SALISBURY, MD - WBOC has learned that Wicomico County Councilman Shane Baker submitted his resignation from the County Council on Thursday.
Council President John Cannon confirmed to WBOC that Baker resigned this afternoon, April 17. Cannon says Baker resigned after changing his primary residence to Delmar, Delaware.
“I, Shane Baker, do hereby immediately resign my position on the Wicomico County Council because I am imminently relocating my primary residence to Delaware," Baker wrote in his resignation letter. "Pursuant to Wicomico County Charter Section 202(E), I am deemed to have resigned from office upon moving my residence from my Councilmanic District. Thank you.”
First elected to represent Wicomico’s District 3 in 2022, Baker also served as the Council’s vice-president from December 2022 to December 2023. He is a former Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Those interested in filling the vacancy of Wicomico County Council District 3 seat are asked to contact their representative on the Republican State Central Committee or the Wicomico County Council Office at 410-548-4696. The person selected will fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term, according to County officials.
