U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks on Thursday announced $1 million in federal funding to boost processing of invasive blue catfish on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Real Good Fish is seeking to partner with school districts to feature invasive blue catfish on cafeteria menus, aiming to help restore the Chesapeake Bay while providing students with a locally sourced lunch option. The company has initiated a partnership with Caroline County Public Schools to achieve this goal.

A seafood program with roots on the West Coast is expanding into the Mid-Atlantic, with a mission that tackles two challenges at once: feeding students healthier meals and reducing the population of invasive blue catfish in the Chesapeake Bay.
