Three young girls were saved from the rip currents at Ocean City yesterday, according to Ocean City Beach Patrol. 

Hurricane Erin remains far offshore, but its effects are already being felt along the Maryland coast. Officials in Ocean City say the storm is creating rough surf, dangerous rip currents and the potential for beach erosion.

The public beaches at Assateague National Seashore still have empty lifeguard stands after federal cuts to the National Park Service budget eliminated lifeguards.

Rehoboth Beach is preparing for possible rip currents and rough waters this weekend as Hurricane Ernesto continues to strengthen in the Atlantic. 

The Ocean City Beach Patrol announced its lifeguarding programs will end for the season today.
