Journeyman goaltender Matt Tomkins returned to the NHL after more than two years away and was the first star of the game as the Edmonton Oilers beat the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The 32-year-old had some big saves among his 27 in just his seventh start in the league. Tomkins' path through hockey has taken him to Indianapolis, Sweden and Beijing. Connor McDavid and his teammates are happy it brought Tomkins back to his hometown to play a big role in Edmonton's 11th victory in 15 games this season.
