Salisbury Man Arrested in Double Shooting

Mohammed Tarer

SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man is facing attempted murder and related charges in connection with a shooting that left two people injured over the weekend.

It happened shortly after midnight Saturday, Nov. 20. Salisbury police said an officer was on patrol in the area of West Main Street when the officer overheard what was believed to be gunshots coming from the area of the 600 block of Williams Landing. The officer called for backup and responded to the area where they observed a large gathering of people in the parking lot of the complex.

As other officers arrived on scene, they were directed to a home on the 600 block of Williams Landing where they met with a 23-year-old male victim who had sustained injuries as a result of apparent gunshots.

Police said the investigation revealed that a social gathering had been held and that a fight had broken out in the parking lot.

Police said that during the fight a suspect, later identified as Mohammed Sadiq Tarer, 19, of Salisbury, produced a semi-automatic handgun and began shooting into the crowd of people. The victim was shortly thereafter transported to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional where he was treated for his injuries.

Officers and detectives responded to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional and learned that a second victim, a 20-year-old man, had gone to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury sustained through an apparent gunshot. Police said the investigation revealed that this victim was also at the scene of the gathering at Williams Landing when Tarer started shooting at the crowd.

As a result of the investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Tarer. On Monday night, detectives observed Tarer traveling in a vehicle near the 1600 block of North Salisbury Boulevard. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and took Tarer into custody without incident.

Police said that following Tarer's arrest, detectives conducted a search and seizure warrant at Tarer’s home on the 400 block of Liberty Street, where they located and recovered a semiautomatic handgun.

A records search was conducted on the handgun and it was not found to be stolen. Police said officers and detectives are continuing their investigation into how Tarer came to be in possession of the handgun.

Tarer was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use/violent crime, loaded handgun on person, and handgun on person. He was later turned over to the custody of the Wicomico County Detention Center.

This investigation is ongoing and the Salisbury Police Department is requesting anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the department's Criminal Investigation Division at 410-548-3165. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Solvers at 410-548-1776.
