High pressure is in control of the forecast over the next couple of days leading to sunshine and warmer temperatures as the ridge will be sitting out to our east starting later this afternoon. You can feel a difference in the air…it feels a bit heavier this morning as the humidity has gone up a smidge overnight and will slowly creep up on us throughout the day. Today will be a warmer day with temperatures in the 80s across Delmarva (the beaches will be cooler). The breeze will start to pick up out of the south and southwest tonight and heading into Friday.

This wind shift will actually help to drive temperatures up a little bit warmer for Friday with highs into the mid to upper 80s in places (the beaches will be cooler) with a mostly sunny day. We will be watching a cold front arrive late on Friday that could bring some scattered showers and even a thunderstorm is not out of the question. The front looks to be moisture starved, so there are some question marks about how robust this chance will be on Friday evening into Friday night.

The weekend forecast has some questions that we will need to solve over the next few days. A big ridge of high pressure will be diving in from Canada and trying to clear the front before we wake up on Saturday. There are hints that this will be run into by a new area of low pressure trying to develop down toward the Carolinas (this sounds really familiar). One minor shift we are making for Saturday is that it will be a gray day with the chance of drizzle and a few spotty showers at times. Most of Saturday will still be dry with temperatures cooler based on the clouds lingering with highs in the 60s and a couple low 70s (around 65 at the beach) with the wind off the Atlantic.

The other shift that has happened over the last 24 hours is that Sunday is now looking so much wetter than it did yesterday. I was trying to be optimistic and keep things drier, but the low looks to ride the stalled front right into our neck of the woods and bring us a good soaking rain. This will be an all day event, so if you have outdoor plans for Sunday…I would suggest moving these things to Saturday or re-schedule them as it will be a cool and dreary day with temperatures in the 50s and 60s for highs. On average, we are looking at most of us picking up an inch of rain with some folks picking up on more…closer to 2 inches of rain by the time it ends on Sunday night. This forecast could still wiggle and wobble, so stay tuned as we fine tune the forecast.

The high settles right over the top of the area for next week bringing with it our first real shot of fall. By real shot of fall, I think we will have some temperatures next week in the 60s for highs and our coolest communities falling into the 30s.
