FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 71°F. Normal low: 49°F.

A frontal boundary that has brought a little bit of increase cloud cover to Delmarva rose to the north a little earlier than expected today, making for a big contrast in temperatures - from the low 60s at the coast, to the mid 80s on the Midshore.

With the nearby boundary and lots of warm and humid air, there is a chance for a few pop-up showers or thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening - though it won't be a washout and outdoor activities should be fine so long as you keep an eye to the sky. Dynamics are not good for severe weather, but some gusty downpours could be possible whereever a shower pops up.

A similar setup is in the forecast for Friday, with warm temperatures in the 80s, except for the coast where temperatures will only reach the 70s. Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening, but like today, should only be a brief nuisance to outdoor activities.

Rain chances continue to increase for the weekend into next week as a low pressure system develops to our west and drags a cold front across Delmarva on Sunday.

Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days, with warm temperatures and just scattered showers and thunderstorms. It is possible a few thunderstorms could briefly become severe for damaging winds.

The front approaches on Sunday, which could turn out to be a washout with widespread showers expected.

Longer range guidance is now coming into better agreement that a secondary low pressure will develop along the passing frontal boundary and get "cut off" from the parent low and meander around the Mid-Atlantic. This has increased rain chances from Monday and Tuesday, which could see some substantial rain on the peninsula.

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average above normal, and precipitation below normal for May 8 - May 14.
