SALISBURY, Md.- One of Delmarva's own is putting on his Sunday best to pursue his dream. Salisbury minister Joshua Copeland is in the final round of the hit national gospel singing competition called "Sunday Best," which airs on the cable network BET. It all comes down to the final show this Sunday!
Before Copeland flies to Atlanta to perform this weekend, he sat down with WBOC's Kimberly Wiggins to talk faith, family and what he hopes to do with the big prize.
The 37-year old started as one of 20 contestants. He's now one of two people competing for the grand prize. Copeland is an Eastern Shore native, a self-described "preacher's kid," and a man with an innate love to sing. His family first nurtured his gift by putting him in the children's choir at church when he was 7-years-old. It was a gift they first heard after Copeland sang along to a commercial.
Years ago, Copeland arrived on the national gospel scene after recording the song "The Blood" with renowned artist Charles Butler. Copeland's brother, Mandel who is also a minister at their father's Salisbury church, United Faith Churches of Deliverance, wrote the hit song.
Prayer is Copeland's key to remaining calm before, during and after performances. And remaining calm is especially important now that Copeland is singing for gospel legends.
"I would never thought that it'd be me," said Copeland.
The show's winner receives a $50,000 cash prize and a recording contract.
