Folk Festival Still in Need of Volunteers

SALISBURY, Md.- In just two months the National Folk Festival will come to Salisbury, but an event to this magnitude takes a lot of planning. A crucial role to the folk festival is volunteers.

In order to host the event, 850 volunteers are needed. However, as of now, the festival explained it only has about a third of that.

The three day affair is free, but volunteers are essential.

"That's how we keep it free is getting the volunteers to show up," National Folk Festival Volunteer Coordinator, Mark DeLancey, explained.

But one reason why some people in town say they aren't volunteering, is because they don't know how to go about signing up.

"By advertising the volunteer process more it would be an easier way to get people to volunteer," Mary Prunty said.

The website is the best way for volunteers to sign up, you can head to shoregetconnected.org

"There's 18 different categories of things that you can sign up to do. You can sign up for a particular day, you can sign up for a particular shift. You can do groups of people," DeLancey said.

Volunteer positions range from answering phones to breaking down sets. You can even tag along with performers.

"Say hey, I speak French so I want to help this artist being able to translate," DeLancey added.

Euriel Vega is a junior at Salisbury University, he's volunteering with his fraternity.

"I think the general jist is that we're going to be moving stuff in and setting stuff up," Vega said.

Even 13-year-old Allison Donovan can't wait to help out.

"I also want to meet new people who love music," she said.

The National Folk Festival is coming to town September 7-9th.
