SALISBURY, Md.- Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan spoke exclusively Tuesday to WBOC about the controversy surrounding Cecil County State's Attorney Edward Rollins III. Rollins is charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct after police were called to his hotel room in Ocean City last Wednesday.
In a one-on-one interview with WBOC's Tashawna Gaines, the governor got right to the point when asked about Rollins future as a judge. When the governor was asked if he had to make a decision Tuesday if he would appoint Rollins the judge vacancy in Cecil County, the governor said, "Probably not."
According to charging documents, Rollins exposed himself several times in a public place. Hogan said this is concerning.
"I don't know anything other than what I've read in the paper, but it sounds pretty terrible," Hogan said.
Rollins has been the Cecil County State's Attorney since 2011. In a public statement, Rollins said he believed his chances for appointment were better under Hogan.
"We've got scheduled interviews with all of the judges which were sent to us by the judicial nominee commission and he's on that list as a state's attorney," Hogan said. "But obviously this latest incident, we're going to try and find more information about it. It concerns me a whole lot. If we found out he's guilty of these crimes, I think it would preclude us from making that appointment."
The vacant Cecil County Circuit Court judgeship was previously held by Rollins' father and grandfather. Rollins will be back in Worcester County in the next month for an initial court appearance.
