SALISBURY, Md. - Maryland State Police charged a man with murder in connection with a home invasion slaying in Salisbury and more arrests are a possibility.
Troopers said 35-year-old Paul Andrew TatemJr. of Quantico was indicted by a Wicomico County grand jury on numerous charges, including first- and second-degree murder, attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and armed robbery. Tatem faces a total of 18 charges following an indictment by a grand jury. He was served the indictment at the Wicomico County Detention Center, where he has been held without bond since July 1 following his original arrest on a parole retake warrant and a theft warrant.
Tatem is charged in the beating death of 72-year-old Donald G. Mariner, who was attacked along with his housemate in their home on the 27000 block of Pemberton Drive on April 16. An autopsy determined Mariner was murdered and died from blunt force injuries, police said.
Investigators said that Mariner's housemate, a 50-year-old man, was also attacked and injured, but survived.
Maryland State Police spokesperson, Greg Shipley, told WBOC on Wednesday that it is possible one or more arrests could still be made in this case. Shipley also told WBOC that robbery is believed to be the main motive for the crime as Tatem stole numerous things from Mariner, including two televisions, several hand guns, Mariner's wallet, and his truck.
Tatem and his defense withdrew their request for a bond review on Wednesday. Tatem is currently being held without bond.
