POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- Authorities are investigating after a woman's body was found in the Pocomoke River Saturday morning.
According to Pocomoke City Police, officers responded around 10:30 a.m. after a boater discovered the body. Crews retrieved the body near the Winter Quarters Golf Course.
Police say the body has been identified as a 66-year-old woman from Pocomoke. Her car was later found at Cypress Park. According to police, the woman had a history of mental illness.
Police say there are no apparent signs of foul play. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore for autopsy.
Pocomoke City Police first responded to the scene, but the investigation is now being lead by the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation.
