Salisbury Student Pleas Guilty for Recording a Congressman

SALISBURY, Md-- The 21 year-old Salisbury University student charged with illegally recording a Congressman pleaded guilty Friday.

Jake Burdett appeared at the Wicomico Circuit Court this morning for his plea hearing, in which he admitted to recording a Congressman inside the Salisbury office.

Burdett says he didn't know at the time of recording he was in the wrong. He's now pushing for more transparency from public officials.

"Considering these are public officials we pay taxes, we fund them, I don't think they should have the same privacy rights and expectations as private citizens. I'm going to be taking it to the state level to get it amended," says Burdett.

In addition to being charged with wiretapping, Burdett is being placed on probation for the next three years and is required to complete 100 hours of community service.
