SMYRNA, Del.- St. Patrick's Day for many Irish natives who are a long way from home is a day to celebrate their culture and keep their traditions alive.
Shirley and Joseph Sheridan are the owners of the Sheridan Pub Restaurant in Smyrna. When March 17th rolls around, they know it's time to celebrate the place they're from.
Joseph Sheridan is from Dublin where Shirley Sheridan was born in Dublin and lived in Mullingar most of her life.
After spending nearly 30 years in the United States, they still maintain the importance of celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
"It's a day that all the Irish come together," explains Joseph Sheridan. "First generation, second generation, third generation we meet them all here and people do travel a long way to celebrate their heritage."
For the Sheridans, celebrating their culture doesn't stop when the holiday ends.
"We serve Irish favorites all year long but obviously today it's a huge hit for all of the locals and not so local people," said Shirley Sheridan.
The Sheridan Pub Restaurant will be open for more St. Patrick's Day celebrating until closing at 1am.
