RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Carter's Grove is returning to Colonial Williamsburg.
The foundation that runs the heritage site submitted the lone bid Wednesday for the colonial plantation on the James River. The bid was $7.4 million. The purchase includes 400 historic Virginia acres and a palatial house.
The sale is subject to approval from U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk. Court-appointed trustee Stanley Samorajczyk confirmed the sale.
The property is valued at just under $15 million.
The foundation had owned Carter's Grove until 2007, when a wealthy Virginian purchased it for $15.3 million. But Halsey Minor lost his fortune and couldn't make the payments. He never lived there.
Colonial Williamsburg had owned Carter's Grove since the 1960s.
