Chincoteague Island faced strong storms this morning as Tropical Storm Ophelia passed through, but the town experienced little flooding - easing concerns for neighbors. Despite initial fear, the streets remained relatively clear.

Rebecca Shaffer, Shelline Piselli, AND Karen Marro, who were visiting the island we're thankful they didn't cancel their trip.

"We were all panicking, wondering if we should leave or stay. In the end, we stayed and dealt with the rain, which turned out to be less severe than expected." said Marro.

This sentiment was shared by many on the island who had prepared for the worst but found the storm relatively mild.

"Like everyone else on the island, we secured our belongings and prepared for the worst. Fortunately, the island avoided major flooding." said neighbor Eric Nack.

Some parts of the island still felt the effects of the storm - particularly near the coast. The winds and waves at Assateague Beach were strong, rapid, and were nearing the top of the dunes.

Dozens of island residents and visitors ventured out of their homes to the coast to witness the sight as the rain began to clear.
