DELAWARE - The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has released a report on its proposed process and recommendations for Delaware’s procurement of offshore wind.
The report, according to DNREC, outlines factors for the state to consider in developing an offshore wind program, key developments that may affect planning, and a review of current conditions of the offshore wind industry.
“This report provides the background, current economic conditions and options for the Governor and state legislators to consider as Delaware charts its path forward in the development of a comprehensive offshore wind program,” said DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin.
Among the recommendations DNREC provides in the report is legislation to authorize and establish a path to procurement of offshore wind in Delaware, making DNREC the lead agency in developing an offshore wind procurement program, and considering potential environmental and natural resource impacts in planning offshore wind procurement.
DNREC says the report on offshore wind procurement was presented to Governor John Carney and state lawmakers by the Department’s State Energy Office. The report comes as US Wind, Inc. begins talks with Delaware’s coastal towns to bring offshore wind projects to Delaware waters.
