DOVER, Del. - Dover officials have announced that parks across the city would be closing early this upcoming weekend due to the potential for unsanctioned events, or “pop-up parties.”

The City of Dover issued the announcement on social media on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Authorities say Dover’s parks would be closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

The city and Kent County made a similar announcement earlier this year due to “credible reports” of large, sanctioned gatherings.

It is currently unclear what alerted officials to the potential events, though information on pop-up parties is often spread online via social media. Communities across Delmarva have grappled with the trend in recent months.
