REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. -- Rehoboth Beach officials are urging residents to take precautions as a significant thunderstorm moves into the region.
Officials are asking neighbors, visitors, and business owners to secure any loose umbrellas, outdoor furniture, and trash cans. Anyone who is not currently at home is advised to ask a neighbor to secure their home.
City leaders also say all water activities are prohibited. They are also asking everyone to avoid the beach due to the potential of erosion caused by high surf.
With the potential of power outages, Rehoboth Beach officials said the city's Convention Center will be open on Tuesday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for neighbors in need, including for charging and warmth.
Officials said crews are out on Monday picking up branches and debris around town, and are looking to get as many as possible before winds pick up. Anyone concerned about branches in their yards is encouraged to secure them until Wednesday for the regularly scheduled yard pick up.
Regular trash pick-up is still scheduled for Tuesday, but officials said they will make an announcement if that changes. Those looking for additional information are encouraged to visit the city's website.
