SMYRNA, Del. - The Delaware State Police say they arrested 43-year-old Joseph Kleinen on felony drug and weapon charges after a traffic stop in Smyrna.
Police say it happened around 8:15 p.m. on June 9. Members of DSP's Special Investigations Unit were patrolling South Dupont Boulevard near Monrovia Avenue when they saw a U-Haul box truck commit an unspecified traffic violation.
DSP troopers then attempted to pull the truck over, but it continued driving slowly southbound on South Dupont Boulevard for a while before making a U-turn onto the northbound side of the road. Troopers say they saw the driver throw a clear plastic bag from the truck before pulling over.
Kleinen was arrested without incident and investigators were able to recover the discarded plastic bag. They determined it contained about 7.33 grams of suspected crystal meth, and later found he intended to distribute the drugs. Police then searched the truck and say they also found two concealed bladed weapons.
According to police, Kleinen is prohibited from possessing deadly weapons because of his prior felony convictions. He was also driving with a suspended license.
