Salisbury Man Advocates for Dirt Bike Park in Salisbury

WICOMICO CO., MD - Multiple law enforcement agencies in Wicomico County are joining forces to tackle illegal dirt bike activity on public streets and in neighborhoods, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

Salisbury Police say they will be conducting coordinated patrols with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, Delmar Police Department, Fruitland Police Department, Maryland State Police, Pittsville Police Department, and the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County to crack down on illegal dirt bike driving.

"The main take away from this is really just to get for the community to get behind this thing and realize that the the things that we're going to be pushing out is to is help, help us help you," said Salisbury Police Chief Dave Meinschein.

Dirt bikes on public roads have been a continuous source of frustration in Wicomico County, with local police repeatedly warning against it.

Authorities say the illegal activity poses serious safety risks to pedestrians, other drivers, and dirt bike riders themselves.

"Do I think we could solve this issue? Absolutely. If we were allowed to pursue these individuals like we used to. This would curb everything. But we're no longer allowed to do that. And, we've got to operate within the parameters of the law just like everybody else," said Sheriff Mike Lewis.

Neighbors are asked to report any illegal dirt bike activity to assist in preventing accidents and ensuring neighborhood well-being. In a social media post shared by the Salisbury Police Department Friday, officials said a monetary reward would be offered for tips identifying illegal dirt bike and off-road vehicle activity.
