The Marine Education, Research & Rehabilitation Institute responded to a dead juvenile dolphin that washed ashore along the Broadkill river earlier this week.

The newly realigned dune at Broadkill Beach has taken shape after months of work, according to DNREC. The project, which involved shifting sand and redesigning the dune structure, has transformed the coastline and improved beach access.

Communities across the peninsula are preparing for a gusty and sopping Sunday as a coastal storm that arrived overnight lingers over Delmarva.

Coastal communities along the Delaware Bay are bracing for a major storm predicted to bring strong winds and flooding. Neighbors and officials say they are taking advantage of “the calm before the storm” to make final preparations.

Officials with Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) have outlined a proposal to fix the dunes along Broadkill Beach. 

This year’s prescribed burn includes a total of nearly 200 acres throughout the refuge, including the headquarters area, that will tentatively take place beginning Monday, March 28 through through Friday, April 1, and will be contingent upon optimal burn conditions.
