They say it happened on June 10 around 7:48 p.m. A Harley Davidson motorcycle was reportedly traveling eastbound on Saxis Road near Hammock Road when the motorcyclist lost control and went off the road. The motorcycle then struck a guardrail.
Police say the unrestrained driver, a 17-year-old girl from Lewes, was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital where she died. A 4-year-old passenger, who was properly restrained in a child safety seat, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire officials say bystanders used fire extinguishers from their own vehicles to suppress the flames enough to remove the driver.
Around 10:10 p.m. on December 2, police say a Toyota 4Runner was traveling in the right lane of Sussex Highway south of Brickyard Road. A pedestrian who was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a flashlight was attempting to cross Sussex Highway southbound from the center median at the same time. The pedestrian crossed in the path of the Toyota and was struck in the right lane.
Delaware State Police say around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, a Toyota Rav-4 was traveling westbound on John J. Williams Highway, east of William Street Road. A Volkswagen Jetta was also traveling westbound, behind the Toyota. For reasons still under investigation, the Volkswagen rear-ended the Toyota, then drove off the roadway and struck a tree. The Toyota also veered off the roadway because of the collision.
Troopers say a Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Dupont Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 when a tractor trailer failed to yield, turning left into the southbound lanes.
