Strong northeast winds and high tides are taking a toll on Delaware's beaches, with severe erosion visible in Bethany Beach and powerful waves pounding the coastline.

Officials with the Town of Bethany Beach say the beaches are now closed and will remain closed until Monday, September 28. After that time, beach conditions will be reassessed and a decision will be made on reopening beaches.

Due to dangerous conditions on the town's beaches as a result of the nor'easter that continues to affect the area, beach access points in Dewey Beach are closed to the public until further notice, town officials said Friday.
