Police say the unrestrained driver, a 17-year-old girl from Lewes, was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital where she died. A 4-year-old passenger, who was properly restrained in a child safety seat, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
They say it happened around 12:44 a.m. in the Unit Block of S. New Street, just south of West Division Street. Troopers responded to the area for a reported crash. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a 2013 Nissan Murano that had struck a tree on the east side of the road.
Maryland State Police say they are investigating two fatal crashes that occurred on March 12 on the Eastern Shore. Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a man's death in Dover. Around 11 p.m. on December 5, a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on POW/MIA Parkway, approaching Baden Powell Way. The truck then left the road, traveled off the north edge, and struck a signal light support pole. Police say the reason for the vehicle veering off the road is still under investigation.
